Ways to contact us

How we can help

We provide funding for urgent, non-academic expenses, including:

  • Food and essential grocery needs
  • One month’s rent or utilities due to an emergency
  • Emergency travel (such as family bereavement)
  • Medical or dental expenses not covered by insurance
  • Temporary housing or replacement of belongings lost to fire or flood

What is not covered

Emergency funds are generally not available for:

  • Tuition, university fees, or personal debt
  • Routine expenses resulting from financial planning issues
  • Legal fees and court costs

Who can apply

All currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at the Ann Arbor campus are eligible. While funding is typically limited to once per academic year, we consider exceptions for complex situations.

How to apply

Contact us to discuss your situation, the cause of the hardship, and the amount you need.

  • Email: [email protected]
  • Phone: 734-764-7420
  • In Person: Visit our office during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m)

You may be asked for documentation, such as receipts or invoices for:

  • Emergency travel or car repairs
  • Essential technology (laptops/WiFi cards)
  • Medical procedures or medications

We work with the Office of Financial Aid to determine eligibility. If you are approved, you’ll get the funds in your student account within 1-2 business days or directly deposited into your bank account within 2-3 business days.
