Campus Climate Support

The Campus Climate Support Team in the Dean of Students Office

Creating and maintaining a respectful and welcoming environment for all to live, learn, and thrive is a priority at the University of Michigan. To support this, professional staff members in the Dean of Students Office provide Campus Climate Support (CCS), assisting students with recovering from concerns that impede their sense of belonging on campus.

Any student who has experienced discrimination or harassment should report these incidents directly to the Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX Office (ECRT), the university office responsible for responding to such reports, using this website.  Students may be referred to Campus Climate Support after a report has been made to ECRT; however, referrals are not required.

CCS will meet with students seeking assistance in navigating campus life to offer support and referrals, help students access campus resources, consider safety measures and social connections, discuss reporting options, and identify other supportive opportunities.

What is a Campus Climate Concern?

A campus climate concern describes any behavior, comment, or incident—whether intentional or unintentional—that negatively affects someone’s sense of belonging, inclusion, or well-being in the university community.

Campus Climate Student Advisory Board

Purpose

The Campus Climate Student Advisory Board provides an opportunity for students' feedback and insight on issues impacting student experiences and inclusion at the University of Michigan. The Board works closely with Associate Dean of Students Nicole Banks and the Campus Climate & Expect Respect program coordinator Liliana Cespedes to elevate student voices and help guide responsive programming and support efforts.

Monthly meetings throughout the academic year provide space to share lived experiences, suggest new ideas, and voice opinions on campus-wide initiatives. The Board’s input informs and offers context to Campus Climate strategy and programming.

Composition

The Board welcomes students from all walks of life, including undergraduate and graduate/professional students. We value diverse lived experiences and encourage students with different perspectives and identities to apply.

All members are selected through a brief application and interview process. Meetings may also feature guest speakers from across the university community.

Organization

Members serve a one-year renewable term from September through April. During the academic year, the board meets once per month, typically in person, on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Given the limited number of meetings, we ask that members attend consistently. Students who miss more than two meetings may be dismissed from the Board to ensure continuity and collaboration.

Application Process

The 2025–26 Campus Climate Student Advisory Board application is now open and will remain open until all spaces are filled.

Interested students will be contacted for brief interviews once their application is reviewed.
