We are committed to supporting Blavin Scholars by helping them:

• Secure a path to graduation and transition smoothly into a successful career

In 2006, Amy and Paul Blavin endowed a University of Michigan scholarship for students with foster care experience. They soon recognized that financial assistance alone was not enough. In partnership with the Division of Student Life, they created a cohort-based program offering the personalized guidance, practical resources, and lasting relationships students need to earn their degrees and build the futures they envision.

With help from donors across the nation, the Blavin Scholars Program has since grown into a best-in-class model, celebrating 130 graduates and maintaining a graduation rate of more than 90%. These results show what talented students can achieve when they know people believe in them and are invested in their success.

Blavin Scholars receive personalized coaching, financial and academic assistance, career guidance, and help navigating college life. They are part of a close-knit network that remains with them throughout their Michigan experience and beyond.

Amy Blavin is a philanthropist and advocate committed to improving opportunities for young people with foster care experience. She supports initiatives focused on higher education, mental health and social impact, and has played an active role in the Blavin Scholars Program since its founding. Amy regularly returns to Michigan to build relationships with scholars and celebrate their accomplishments.

Paul Blavin (BBA ’86) is a Michigan alumnus, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He co-founded Mercy BioAnalytics and currently serves as vice chair of its board. Previously, he built a career in finance and investment management. Paul credits Michigan with changing the course of his life and is committed to helping Blavin Scholars access that same transformative opportunity.
