From professional development workshops to cheering on the Wolverines, here is a list of scheduled events that support the Blavin Scholars community.
Fall Semester
Fall Welcome (required): Kick off the year with a fun gathering to meet the community, set expectations, and learn about program updates and involvement opportunities.
Blavin Life Skills Conference (required): Build academic and professional skills while having fun—past topics include buying a car, self-defense, interview strategies, and business dinner etiquette.
Fall Tailgate (required): Join Paul and Amy Blavin for lunch and cheer on the U-M football team.
Gratitude Dinner (required): Gather for good food and company before the Thanksgiving break.
Blavin Speed Match: Scholars meet prospective mentors.
Fall Study Days: Study in a supportive space and snack with friends as you prep for finals.
Spring Semester
Pizza and Pucks or Hoops Day (required): Enjoy lunch and a U-M hockey game (or basketball game) with Paul and Amy Blavin.
Winter Study Days: Study in a supportive space and enjoy snack with friends as you prep for finals.
Blavin Graduation (required): Celebrate our graduating scholars, yearly accomplishments, and more.
Annual Blavin outreach events
Sharing your experience inspires others and strengthens our network. All scholars are required to participate in at least one outreach event per academic year. These are great opportunities to connect with prospective students who have experienced foster care.
Outreach formats include:
- Student panel discussions
- Interactive training sessions
- Campus tours for visiting youth
- Informational program presentations
