Steps You Can Take
-
Connect with Your Professor
- If you are comfortable, connect with your professor about your situation. Work in partnership with your faculty member to determine how you can complete the coursework and fulfill your academic responsibilities, given your current situation and/or stressors. Talk about what is reasonable for them to expect from you and develop a shared understanding of how you can accomplish the work needed to complete the course. You are your best advocate.
-
Connect with your Academic Advisor
- Your academic advisor has the best information about your program and resources that are available for you to progress successfully. If you have questions about classes, requirements, or major-specific opportunities, your academic advisor is a great place to start.

Connect with Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD)
- SSD's mission is to provide accomodation and access to students with disabilities. If you have a disability, chronic health condition, and/or mental health condition, you can register with SSD. To register, have a physician complete the registration form on your behalf. Submit the form to SSD and meet with an SSD staff member to determine what, if any, accommodations would best assist you. SSD will provide you with a letter to share with your professors listing your accommodations.

Other Things to Consider
-
Add/Drop & Withdrawing
- Pay close attention to the academic calendar. Depending on when you change your schedule it may have a significant impact on your Financial Aid. When withdrawing, be sure to contact your professors to document your last day of participation in class; this information is critical for Financial Aid purposes.
- If you live on campus, contact staff in University Housing to determine how to terminate your housing contract and move out of the residence halls.
- International students should connect with the International Center before withdrawing from the term or dropping courses.
