Bio

Mikaila serves as a Blavin Campus Coach and Mentor Coordinator for the Blavin Scholars program.  As a Campus coach, Mikaila supports students in the Blavin Scholars program from admission to graduation to achieve their definition of success. By working with them through our 7 life domains, she ensures each student is considering their overall wellness instead of focusing solely on academic achievement. In addition to these responsibilities, Mikaila connects students to on campus resources, basic needs support, and housing.  All coaches lend a hand in planning, organizing our Blavin Scholars annual events.  In addition, each Blavin scholar is matched with a mentor who is a faculty or staff member of the University of Michigan. Mentors support scholars with campus connections, networking opportunities, career exploration, and postgraduate planning. Mikaila plans mentor engagement events, mentor recruitment, and mentor training.
Before coming to the University of Michigan, Mikaila served as a Housing Resource Specialist at Arbor Circle in Grand Rapids.  She came to her current position in May 2022.  Mikaila earned her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work at Hope College in 2020 as a first generation college graduate.
